WOOO! I haven't felt that good after a race in a while!
It was an absolutely beautiful day out, a little windy but you couldn't have asked for a better race day.
My beau and I woke up at 4:40 AM as the race started at 7:00 AM downtown. That was kind of a bummer, but I've gotten pretty good at losing the pre-race jitters the night before and I slept pretty well.
The race was pretty flat as Chicago is not known for it's hills. I was trying to bust tail through most of the race, but there were times that it got congested, so there was a little slow and go and slow and go for about the first half of the race. It took me a while to get a good pace going but once I did it was very steady the rest of the way.
I had to keep going because I KNEW I wanted to come in under 2 hours. I JUST HAD TO!
I finished a little under at 1:58:02! PR! I actually PR'd! Of course, you always PR your first race distance but this was the first time that I actually beat an old time. Ha-zaa!
If you've never been to Navy Pier, it is a nice place for families. But as for actual entertainment there isn't much. There are a ton of restaurants including the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. The best part of the race (and I even passed him crossing the finish line!) was Forrest Gump! It was insane how giddy I was. Ha!
He said, "So you did the 10 miles today? That's quite a distance." And my friend Alicia said, "You've done quite a bit of running yourself!" and without skipping a beat he replies:
"I had run for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours." SO GREAT!
Here are some highlights from the day!
